The Supreme Court has rejected bail for Prajwal Revanna, former JD(S) MP, in a case involving grave allegations of rape and sexual assault. Justices Bela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma noted Revanna's significant influence in dismissing the plea, despite arguments presented by Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi.
Rohatgi highlighted that the chargesheet against Revanna does not include the charge under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC. However, the bench maintained it could not overturn the Karnataka High Court's previous decision from October 21. Rohatgi has sought permission to revisit the court in six months, a request the bench acknowledged could not be preemptively addressed.
The allegations against Revanna, son and grandson of prominent JD(S) leaders, emerged following the circulation of incriminating videos. The probe, conducted by a special investigation team, has led to Revanna's custody at Parappana Agrahara Jail, with his case drawing significant public interest.
