In a significant escalation of violence, eleven suspected militants were killed in a gunfight with security forces in Manipur's Jiribam district on Monday.
The clash at Jakurador Karong in Borobekra sub-division left two CRPF personnel injured, with one critically wounded, while the militants, clad in camouflage, launched an indiscriminate attack.
The aftermath prompted imposing prohibitory orders due to fears of further disturbances, as the region already reels from ethnic violence that has claimed over 200 lives since last year.
