The Delhi High Court confirmed on Monday that the trial against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler, related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, will continue as scheduled. Tytler had filed a plea seeking a stay on the trial proceedings in a Delhi court, which the high court rejected, affirming that the trial will proceed.
Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri, who presided over the hearing, remarked that the trial's continuation will depend on the outcome of the current proceedings. Tytler's request stemmed from a case scheduled for evidence recording on November 12. He sought a delay, urging the court not to proceed until his plea challenging the framing of charges is resolved.
Opposing Tytler's plea, senior advocate H S Phoolka, representing the riot victims, argued that the process was being unnecessarily prolonged as the elderly witness was being subjected to repeated court appearances. Despite Tytler's arguments of a 'witch-hunt', the court is steadfast in its decision to continue the trial proceedings.
