A tragic incident unfolded in Singapore as a man was charged with stabbing a Catholic priest during a Saturday evening Mass. Court documents reveal that Basnayake Keith Spencer launched the attack at St Joseph’s Church in Bukit Timah.
The 37-year-old suspect, Spencer, was quickly subdued by churchgoers. Among his possessions were four additional weapons, including a penknife and a mallet. Authorities clarified that the assault was neither religiously motivated nor an act of terrorism.
As police reinforce security measures at religious sites, religious leaders across Singapore have urged increased vigilance. The priest, recovering from mouth injuries, has received widespread support from the community, highlighting the city’s cherished religious diversity.
