A violent attack has erupted along the Iranian-Pakistani frontier, resulting in the deaths of five Iranian soldiers, as reported by state-run IRNA news agency.
The deceased were identified as ethnic Baluch members of the Basij, a paramilitary volunteer force under the Revolutionary Guard, and were ambushed in Saravan city, located in the unstable province of Sistan and Baluchistan, about 1,400 km southeast of Tehran.
Responsibility for the assault remains unclaimed. Hours earlier, Iranian state TV announced a counter-operation by the Revolutionary Guard, which reportedly killed three terrorists and detained nine others, though details on the suspected group's affiliation were not disclosed.
