Sweden and Brazil Strengthen Defense Ties with Strategic Aircraft Deals
Sweden has chosen Embraer's C-390 Millennium to replace its aging military cargo planes, while Brazil plans to expand its Gripen fighter jet order from Saab. The decision follows extensive negotiations and analyses between the nations. The agreement reinforces the defense ties between Sweden and Brazil.
Sweden has opted for Embraer's C-390 Millennium to update its military cargo aircraft fleet, with Brazil set to increase its Gripen fighter jet orders from the Swedish defense company Saab. The letter of intent was signed following prolonged talks between the countries.
In 2010, Brazil inked a deal with Saab for 36 JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets, and now plans to boost that contract by 25%, according to Sweden's government. In exchange, Sweden has chosen the Embraer C-390 Millennium as its new cargo aircraft and will commence purchasing procedures.
"Sweden conducted a thorough analysis, assessed several rivals, and engaged with current C-390 operators. We're pleased," said Embraer's defense head, Bosco da Costa Junior. Sweden ranks as the sixth European nation selecting the Embraer aircraft.
