The Uttar Pradesh government has informed the Supreme Court of its decision to reject the premature release plea of notorious gangster Om Prakash Srivastava, alias Babloo Srivastava. Currently serving a life sentence for the 1993 murder of an additional customs collector, Srivastava's case continues to draw attention.
During a session, Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih were briefed by Additional Advocate General Garima Prasad on the seriousness of Srivastava's convictions, which include offenses under anti-terror laws. The governor's office dismissed Srivastava's latest petition for premature release on November 6.
Prasad argued that Srivastava had not fully disclosed the history of his remission petitions and had approached the court with 'unclean hands.' Srivastava is also noted for his alleged past association and subsequent hostility with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. Despite his claims of good conduct in jail, his plea for another consideration of release was denied as his appeal against his conviction had been previously rejected by the Supreme Court.
