A soldier from Yemen's exiled government unleashed a deadly attack on Saudi troops during an exercise in eastern Yemen, killing two and injuring another. The incident marks a rare insider attack during the protracted conflict between Saudi forces and Yemen's Houthi rebels, officials confirmed on Saturday.
The attack unfolded in Hadramawt province, coinciding with a ceasefire between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis that, despite interruptions, has remained largely in place. While the Houthis did not claim the attack, at least one official hailed it as "an indication of a harsh future awaiting the invaders." In response, U.S. forces launched strikes against Houthi positions, following the downing of another American drone over Yemen.
In the aftermath, authorities released images of the suspect, promising a 30-million-Yemeni-rial reward for information leading to his capture. Houthi-run media reported U.S. airstrikes targeting military sites around Sanaa on Saturday night, intensifying into Sunday morning, amidst brewing tensions in the region.
