The United States and the United Kingdom intensified their military involvement in Yemen with airstrikes on the capital, Sanaa, and the Amran governorate, according to Al Masirah TV, linked to the Houthi movement.
Reports from Houthi media and residents confirmed that approximately nine raids hit Sanaa and its surrounding areas. The Iran-backed Houthi militants have been active since November, launching attacks near Yemen in response to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict involving Hamas.
The resulting tensions from these raids have prompted U.S. and British retaliatory strikes, causing a rerouting of international shipping traffic, as vessels opt for the lengthier journey around Africa to bypass the Red Sea and Suez Canal.
