The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched a fresh probe into alleged malpractices related to the NEET-UG exams, implicating a woman medical student for impersonation, officials announced on Saturday.

The case was handed over to the CBI by Maharashtra Police, upon recommendation from the state government. It involves Nishika Premprakash Yadav, a second-year medical student, who is accused of appearing for the exam at DY Patil University under the name of another candidate, Mayuri Manohar Patil.

An alert from the National Testing Agency flagged Patil as a suspicious candidate, leading to Yadav being apprehended when her biometric details didn't match, confirming her true identity. The local authorities initially registered a complaint, which has since been escalated to a CBI-level investigation.
