A court in Maharashtra's Thane district has delivered a life sentence to a man convicted of murdering a salesman more than seven years ago. The verdict was handed down by Additional Sessions Judge A N Sirsikar, who also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on Suresh Pradeep Jaiswal.
This ruling comes after the conviction of two co-accused, Amit Indradev Gupta and Avanish Jaiswal, who received life sentences earlier in 2023. Court documents reveal the crime took place in the early hours of January 1, 2017.
The victim, Vikas Upadhyay, an employee at an electronic store, engaged in a dispute with the accused over hailing a cab. Attempting to take an autorickshaw, Upadhyay was subsequently attacked by the trio, despite efforts from bystanders to intervene. "The circumstances and witness testimonies conclusively establish that the accused acted with a common intention," Judge Sirsikar remarked. Delays in Pradeep's trial occurred as he was initially absconding, resulting in his case being separated from his co-accused.
