Authorities have identified a homemade bomb as the cause of a deadly explosion in an Athens apartment, which left one man dead and seriously injured a woman. The blast has raised suspicions of links to local guerrilla groups, according to police and Greek officials.
Police confiscated two guns, bullets, mobile phones, and digital evidence from the blast site, signaling a potential connection to anti-establishment groups. "It remains to be seen if this was an attempt to revive a third generation of guerrillas," a police official disclosed to Reuters.
Greece's history of political violence is lengthy. While the notorious group "November 17" was dismantled in 2002, several left-wing and anarchist organizations have since emerged. The country has experienced cyclical bomb and arson attacks, especially during its financial crisis, targeting governmental and symbolic structures.
