A devastating fire, reportedly sparked by a diya used during Diwali rituals, led to the tragic deaths of a businessman, his wife, and their domestic help in Kanpur early Thursday morning.

The incident occurred around 3 am in the wooden temple unit of their home in Pandu Nagar, according to local authorities. Deputy Commissioner of Police Dinesh Tripathi revealed that the family, having performed Diwali rituals late into the night, left the lamp lit in the temple unit.

During the fire, Sanjay Shyam Dasani, his wife Kanika, and their maid Chhabi Chauhan were asleep and unfortunately unable to escape, Tripathi confirmed. Despite prompt intervention by local fire officials, the victims were declared dead upon arrival at Regency Hospital. Legal proceedings are underway to investigate further.
