Tragedy Strikes as Thai Nationals Caught in Mideast Conflict
Four Thai nationals were killed and one injured in a rocket attack near Metula. In past conflicts, Thais have been abducted, with some still held captive. Amid escalating violence, Thailand urges peace as the conflict severely impacts civilians.
In a tragic incident near the town of Metula, close to the Israel-Lebanon border, four Thai nationals lost their lives and another was injured due to rocket fire, according to Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa's statement on social media platform X.
The situation is reminiscent of last year's horrific episode when 46 Thais were among the 1,200 fatalities during attacks by Hamas militants across Israeli borders. Furthermore, during the attack on October 7, 2023, 30 Thai nationals were abducted, with six still believed to be held captive, Thai authorities reported.
The escalating conflict saw Israel retaliate with severe measures against Gaza, resulting in mass casualties, and expanding its military actions to target Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon. Thailand, concerned about its 30,000 nationals working in Israel, mainly in agriculture, continues to advocate for peace, emphasizing the profound impact on innocent civilians.
