In a strategic administrative decision, the Mizoram government has named H Lalengmawia as the acting chief secretary. This notification came a mere day before Renu Sharma, the incumbent chief secretary, was due to retire.
An IAS officer of the 2005 AGMUT cadre, Lalengmawia will assume his new responsibilities while continuing his role as commissioner and secretary in several departments including environment, forest and climate change, higher and technical education, and fisheries.
The Mizoram government had earlier requested the Centre to appoint Vumlunmang Vualnam, a 1992 batch IAS officer from the Manipur cadre, as Sharma's successor.
