Russia-North Korea Relations: The Strategic Alliance Under Scrutiny
The Kremlin refused to comment on alleged Russian assistance to North Korea in military technology following Pyongyang's missile launch. As North Korea claims advancements in strategic weaponry, there are concerns over possible military collaboration between Moscow and Pyongyang, amidst Russia's silence on North Korean troop presence on its soil.
The Kremlin on Thursday refused to elaborate on reports suggesting Russian support for North Korea's missile technology development following Pyongyang's latest missile test.
North Korea claimed it tested an advanced intercontinental ballistic missile, while Seoul warned of potential Russian technology transfers in exchange for North Korea's support in Ukraine. North Korean troops are reportedly in Russia's Kursk region, with more en route, according to the Pentagon.
While Moscow neither confirmed nor denied North Korean military presence, President Vladimir Putin emphasized Russia's sovereignty in using external troops. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov reiterated the importance of the Russia-North Korea strategic partnership, urging inquiries into military aid to be directed to the Ministry of Defence.
