On Thursday, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha criticized certain politicians for their absence from the Union Territory Foundation Day celebrations, labeling their actions as indicative of a 'dual character.'
Sinha pointed out the continued reality of Jammu and Kashmir as a Union Territory, stressing that the shift to statehood will be celebrated once it occurs. The LG noted that the National Conference, along with leaders like People's Conference chief Sajad Gani Lone and CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, were notably absent, highlighting their stance against the current administration's approach.
Addressing the future of local governance, Sinha attributed delays in Panchayat and urban local body elections to constitutional issues but hinted at imminent preparations for forthcoming polls, following the extension of OBC reservations.
