Cash Haul in Navi Mumbai: Seawoods Seizure Sparks Election Code Concerns

In a significant enforcement action, Navi Mumbai police seized Rs 86.50 lakh in cash from a vehicle in the Seawoods area, in light of the upcoming Maharashtra assembly polls scheduled for November 20.
Based on information received, the crime branch officials targeted a car opposite Krishna Hotel in Sector 42A, Seawoods (West), uncovering the large sum of money. Occupants of the vehicle, Loknath Govindchandra Mohanty, Ratilal Ambabhai Patel, and Vineet Mohanlal Sharma, were unable to provide a satisfactory explanation about the cash during questioning.
The incident prompted the intervention of a flying squad from the Election Commission and Income Tax authorities, leading to the confiscation of the cash on-site. The probe continues as authorities assess potential violations of the electoral code.
