West Bengal's Housing Resurvey: Reassuring Beneficiaries Amid Doubts
The West Bengal government assures citizens about their ongoing housing survey. Double verification will ensure fair beneficiary identification, ensuring those eligible continue to receive aid. The resurvey checks exist for those who've already built homes or relocated following the Centre's fund cessation, with the state pledging full financial support.

In a move to reassure citizens, the West Bengal government announced that a comprehensive resurvey is underway to identify genuine beneficiaries for its housing scheme. Chief Advisor to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Alapan Bandyopadhyay, emphasized that double verification would be employed before removing names from the beneficiary list.
The reason for the resurvey, according to Bandyopadhyay, is to confirm if any listed individuals have already constructed homes or have left the state. This comes as the state steps in to provide full funding for housing, due to a financial impasse with the Centre concerning the Awas Yojana (Grameen) project.
With approximately Rs 1.20 lakh in aid promised to qualifying individuals, the survey will also assess damages from recent natural disasters such as floods and cyclones. Chief Secretary Manoj Pant has instructed district magistrates to conduct the survey with a humanitarian focus.
