KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli has declared an intensified crackdown on crime as the province gears up for the festive season, pledging zero tolerance for criminal activities. Ntuli, alongside law enforcement officers, led a major operation in Durban targeting undocumented workers and counterfeit goods as part of a broad strategy to reinforce safety throughout KwaZulu-Natal.
Intensified Crime Prevention Measures
In Durban’s city centre, a coordinated raid by Premier Ntuli and Provincial Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi resulted in the arrest of more than 30 undocumented individuals and an inspection of several establishments for possible counterfeit goods. Ntuli emphasized that KwaZulu-Natal will not be a refuge for criminals, adding, “Our message is clear: criminality will not be tolerated, and we will pursue justice wherever and whenever it is needed.”
Community Commitment and Zero Tolerance
This Durban operation aligns with Ntuli’s broader initiative to boost collaboration among provincial authorities and police agencies, aimed at creating safer environments for residents and visitors. The joint effort reflects KwaZulu-Natal’s commitment to eradicating crime hotspots and promoting community trust in local law enforcement as the holiday season approaches.
Visit to Families Impacted by Violence in Estcourt
Following the recent fatal attack on the Mazibuko family during a traditional gathering in Nyezane, Ntuli visited the grieving families to express his condolences and offer support. The attack, which saw six masked assailants open fire, resulted in the death of four family members, aged 45 to 61, and left two others injured. A 28-year-old suspect has been apprehended in connection with the crime, signalling a step toward justice for the family and the Estcourt community.
Ntuli stressed the need for unity and security within communities, saying, “This is a tragic loss not only for the Mazibuko family but for the entire community. We stand in solidarity with those affected and are committed to holding those responsible accountable.”
Strengthening Provincial Security
Premier Ntuli’s approach includes intensified patrols, coordinated raids, and a zero-tolerance stance on criminal activities as part of his administration’s strategy to make KwaZulu-Natal a safer place for its citizens. The provincial government remains dedicated to both preventing crime and supporting families affected by violence, working toward a secure environment for all.
