France's Regional Operational Centre for Surveillance and Rescue quickly responded, deploying a rescue vessel and a French Navy helicopter following distress calls of people struggling between Hardelot and Équihen-Plage.
Increasingly, migrants risk crossing from France to Britain in small boats, despite the perilous conditions of one of the world's busiest waterways, prompting continuous rescue efforts.
