Police in Nagpur, Maharashtra, have successfully dismantled a Rajasthan-based gang responsible for defrauding citizens by creating fake Facebook accounts of senior police officers. The suspects, three adults and a minor, were apprehended earlier this week, an official reported.
The group targeted individuals through fake profiles, notably impersonating Nagpur Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Singal. Victims were lured with false stories and ultimately tricked into transferring money. A case came to light when a resident reported suspicious activity linked to his financial transactions.
The minor involved reportedly earned rewards for creating these fake identities, part of a larger scheme to execute cyber fraud. Authorities have seized mobile devices and other materials connected to the criminal enterprise. This arrest marks a significant step in the fight against cybercrime.
