The Nagaland government has officially sanctioned the transformation of Meluri sub-division into a distinct district, marking a significant milestone for the state. This development arose from a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, as announced by Forest Minister and government spokesperson, CL John.
As the decision unfolds, Meluri will emerge as the 17th district, reflecting the state's ongoing administrative evolution over the past three years. This move follows recent district creations, including Tseminyu, Chumoukedima, Niuland, and Shamator. Local leader Z Nyusietho Nyuthe expressed his appreciation for the support from the Chakhesang community.
Meluri spans 1,011 sq km, housing 31 villages and important landmarks like Wazeho industrial town and Avangkhu's International Trade Centre.
