In what could be a sign of economic resilience, U.S. private payroll growth surged dramatically in October, defying widespread expectations of disruption from recent hurricanes and labor strikes. According to the ADP National Employment Report, private sector jobs rose by 233,000 last month.
This figure notably surpassed the upwardly revised September gain of 159,000 and economists' predictions of 114,000, as polled by Reuters. The ADP report, created in collaboration with the Stanford Digital Economy Lab, precedes the highly anticipated Labor Department's employment report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Despite this significant growth, the ADP and BLS reports often show little correlation. According to initial ADP prints, the private sector job growth is regularly understated. Future insights are anticipated with the potential influence of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, along with aerospace industry strikes, considered.
