Crisis Amidst Ruins: Baalbek Faces New Evacuation Warnings
The Israeli military has issued an evacuation warning for Baalbek, a city known for its ancient Roman ruins and UNESCO World Heritage Site status. Recent airstrikes in Lebanon have intensified, targeting Hezbollah and resulting in the deadliest day in the Bekaa Valley in over a year.
The Israeli military has issued a new evacuation warning for residents in the eastern Lebanese city of Baalbek. This city, renowned for its 3,000-year-old Roman ruins, was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984.
Overnight, Israel conducted airstrikes in the Bekaa Valley, which resulted in the deaths of more than 60 individuals in various towns, marking the most lethal day in the region for over a year, according to the district governor. No evacuation orders were provided for towns that were struck.
Increased Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon in recent weeks have been part of a campaign targeting the Lebanese group Hezbollah. As tensions rise, the cultural heritage site of Baalbek remains under threat.
