In a recent statement, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio underscored the relentless pursuit of the Naga political movement. Highlighting a collective commitment across party lines, Rio emphasized unity among legislators in advocating for the administrative integration of Naga-inhabited areas.
Since the inception of Nagaland as a state in 1963, following the 16-point agreement, the Nagaland assembly has consistently passed resolutions focused on this goal. Rio, addressing the state assembly's 60th anniversary, reiterated the importance of integration as a central part of the Naga identity and political movement.
The pursuit of peace and unity, however, has faced impediments. Talks between the Centre and Naga political groups, namely the NSCN-IM and WC NNPGs, remain ongoing. Sticking points include demands for a separate Naga flag and constitution, which the Centre has yet to concede, delaying a final resolution.
