UN Envoy Urges End to Zero-Sum Mentality in Myanmar

In a recent visit to Myanmar's capital, United Nations Special Envoy Julie Bishop engaged with the military junta's head, pushing for a departure from a 'zero-sum mentality' to address the nation's ongoing conflict.

Bishop, a former Australian foreign minister, emphasized the need for reconciliation through violence cessation, accountability, and enhanced humanitarian access. Myanmar's crisis stems from the February 2021 coup by army chief Min Aung Hlaing, leading to widespread civil unrest and displacement.

During her undisclosed meetings in Naypyitaw, Bishop consulted various stakeholders, including the National Unity Government and ethnic armed organizations. She remains committed to impartial engagement, seeking to encourage coordinated regional and global efforts for a peaceful resolution.
