Diplomatic Tensions Escalate Over Execution
Germany has recalled its ambassador to Iran following the execution of German-Iranian national Jamshid Sharmahd. Berlin protested against Iran's actions, while Iran justified the execution citing Sharmahd's involvement in terrorist activities. The situation escalates diplomatic tensions between the two nations.
Germany has taken the significant step of recalling its ambassador to Iran after the execution of Jamshid Sharmahd, a German-Iranian national. This move underlines Berlin's sharp protest against Tehran's actions, as conveyed by the German foreign office on Tuesday.
In the strongest terms, Germany's Ambassador in Tehran registered a protest regarding Sharmahd's execution, prompting the German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock to call the ambassador back to Berlin for consultations. Iranian state media reported Sharmahd's death sentence was due to his conviction for perpetrating terrorist attacks.
The execution has further inflamed tensions, with Germany criticizing Iranian justifications as contradictory to the values of human rights and justice. Sharmahd's family, including his daughter Gazelle, has demanded proof of his execution and sought his return.
