Nagaland's lone Lok Sabha MP, S Supongmeren Jamir, has called for the removal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in the state. Speaking at the 78th Foundation Day of the Naga Students' Federation (NSF), he cited the ongoing ceasefire and peace process with Naga underground groups as reason enough to lift the Act.
The NSF, established in 1945, represents Naga communities across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, and parts of Myanmar. Jamir pointed out that at least five Naga national political groups have been in dialogue with the Centre since 1997. He urged incumbent leaders to advocate against AFSPA and press the state government to petition the Centre for its removal.
Medovi Rhi, NSF President, during his address, underscored the organization's legacy of unity and vision for the Naga community. He emphasized the Federation's role in championing Naga rights and aspirations, calling it a beacon of hope for nationhood.
