Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar voiced concerns on Tuesday over politically motivated crimes in Maharashtra, instructing the state's police chief to intensify efforts in curbing activities that could disrupt the electoral environment.
During a review meeting with Maharashtra and Jharkhand officials, Kumar emphasized the need for heightened vigilance and strict enforcement to ensure elections are conducted fairly. The meeting followed the recent assassination of NCP leader Baba Siddique, which has stirred political tensions in the region.
The Commission highlighted ongoing seizures amounting to Rs 345 crore, aimed at curbing illicit inducements, and underscored the need for identifying critical exit and entry points for monitoring contraband movements across state lines. Upcoming elections are scheduled for November 13 and 20 in Jharkhand, and November 20 in Maharashtra.
