Maoist Leader Neutralized in Odisha Forest Standoff

A Maoist insurgent met his end in a fierce gunfight with security forces within Odisha's Budanai reserve forest on Friday, police reported.
The operation began on October 23 following intelligence tip-offs, concluding after days of strategic pursuit.
During the final phase of the operation, at approximately 9 am, an exchange of gunfire erupted between the elite Special Operation Group (SOG) and Naxals. Upon neutralizing the threat, security personnel uncovered the Maoist's body alongside an AK-47 weapon. Investigations identify the deceased as a senior figure from the CPI(Maoist)'s Kandhamal-Kalahandi-Boudh-Nayagarh Division.
Further reconnaissance and operations continue in the area. Director General of Police, Y B Khurania, lauded the efforts of Kandhamal police, intelligence units, and operational divisions for their success. Since January, this operation marks the fifth Maoist fatality at the hands of security forces in Odisha.
