A head constable of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has died in what authorities suspect to be suicide, sparking concerns about mental health within the force. The incident occurred at the CRPF's 199th battalion headquarters in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, on Thursday.
Police report that Head Constable Pavan Kumar allegedly used his service rifle to end his life while on duty at a watch tower. Colleagues, alerted by the sound of gunfire, found him and rushed him to a community health center, where he was pronounced dead.
This tragedy marks the seventh suicide in five months among troopers in the area, raising alarms over stress and conditions faced by security personnel deployed for anti-Naxalite operations. The investigation is ongoing to understand the motives behind these incidents.
