An Assam fisherman, evading capture for five years after a 2019 murder, has finally been arrested by Kerala police. Nirmal Gogoi, the accused, was apprehended in his home state following a dedicated investigation by the authorities.
The victim, also from Assam, met a tragic end over a reported personal dispute with Gogoi and four accomplices. The group allegedly disposed of the body in the Mattancherry backwaters, eluding law enforcement for years.
Despite several attempts to track him down across India, Gogoi remained at large until a court issued warrant enabled police to locate and arrest him in Dibrugarh district on October 20. He has since been brought to court and remanded in custody.
