The French government is spearheading a significant international effort to bolster humanitarian support for Lebanon, with a conference scheduled for Thursday. The meeting will feature around 70 delegations intent on raising approximately 500 million euros, as detailed in a foreign ministry document.
The planned aid is primarily directed towards assisting displaced individuals. It will focus on providing essential services including health care, food, water, hygiene, and education. Lebanon currently requires $250 million monthly to manage the crisis affecting up to one million displaced persons since recent escalations in conflict.
The conference will also advocate for a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing crisis, encouraging adherence to UN Security Council resolution 1701. This resolution previously ended conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006. Additional backing for Lebanese security forces, key to the nation's unity and stability, will also be sought.
