The arrest follows their involvement in a series of violent crimes in Ecuador, including storming a TV station. Authorities have intensified a crackdown on crime as a result.
Ecuadorean police announced the capture of two alleged criminal leaders linked to a violent TV station attack, captured in Spain. The duo, 'Commander Willy' and his brother Alex, led the notorious Los Tiguerones gang, responsible for car bombs and contract killings in Ecuador.
Members of Los Tiguerones stormed TC television studio in January, using firearms and explosives, in an attack aired live for 20 minutes, shocking the nation. This prompted Ecuador's government to label several gangs as terrorist organizations and launch a comprehensive crackdown on crime.
The Alcivar brothers were arrested in Segur de Calafell, Spain, with police stating that the gang continued to operate from Catalonia. The Guardia Civil worked with Ecuadorean authorities to end their criminal operations spanning drug trafficking and extortion.
