In a landmark judgment, France's apex court has mandated BNP Paribas to reimburse a client who was swindled by a fraudster impersonating a bank advisor.
The scam, executed in 2019, involved 'spoofing,' where the call appeared from the client's actual adviser, resulting in unauthorized transactions totaling 54,500 euros.
Despite the bank alleging severe negligence by the client, the court disagreed and ordered reimbursement with interest and damages, while BNP Paribas commits to enhancing fraud-prevention measures.
