An auto-rickshaw driver in Mumbai has been apprehended for allegedly exploiting tourists with a rigged fare meter at Mumbai International Airport.
Vishal Jaiswal, 43, was arrested following a tip-off about his manipulation of the fare meter using a clandestine mechanism built into the auto's handle.
A viral video of the arrest aimed at raising awareness about the scam shows police documenting the malfunction. The auto-rickshaw was sent for official verification, confirming the meter tampering.
Charges have been filed at Vile Parle police station against Jaiswal under the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita Act for cheating.
Authorities warn that similar practices may be widespread, primarily targeting foreign visitors unfamiliar with local fare systems.
