Urgent Travel Advisory: Terror Threat in Southern Sri Lanka

The Israeli national security council has issued an urgent advisory, instructing Israelis to vacate certain tourist hotspots in Southern Sri Lanka amidst fears of a looming terrorist attack. The advisory is especially targeted towards areas like Arugam Bay and the southern beaches where the threat level is deemed high.

While the Israeli security establishment remains in constant liaison with Sri Lankan authorities to monitor the situation, similar alerts have been raised by the U.S. and German governments. They highlight imminent threats targeting popular tourist destinations, with a specific focus on Arugam Bay, urging tourists to stay clear of the area.

Enhanced police presence has been deployed in these areas, as confirmed by Sri Lankan police spokesperson Nihal Thalduwa. In light of the threats, Israeli tourists and others are advised to avoid large gatherings. The country, amid its economic recovery, had welcomed 1.5 million tourists this year, including 20,515 Israelis.
