In a significant legal development, Bushra Bibi, the wife of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, has been granted bail by a court in the Toshakhana corruption case. This case involves allegations of illegal sale of state gifts. The decision comes nearly nine months after her arrest.
The Islamabad High Court, presided over by Judge Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, accepted her bail plea against Rs 1 million surety bonds. Her arrest earlier this year was part of a corruption conviction that had sentenced both her and Khan to 14 years in jail.
During the hearing, the judge inquired about the necessity of further investigation by the Federal Investigation Agency. The investigative officer stated no additional questioning was needed. The court highlighted similar practices abroad, including in the UK. Bibi has no other pending cases, and she can be released once her bail bond is processed.
