A real Chinese blockade of Taiwan would constitute an act of war and trigger profound repercussions for international trade, stated Taiwan's Defense Minister Wellington Koo. This follows drills by China last week that simulated such a blockade, reinforcing tensions.

China has consistently conducted military activities around Taiwan, maintaining its stance that the democratically governed island is part of its territory. The latest war games mimicked strategic blockades and assaults on key areas, despite lacking official no-flight or no-sail zones, according to Koo.

Koo highlighted that under international law, blockades restrict all aircraft and maritime access, classifying it as warfare per United Nations resolutions. He underscored the global impact, noting a fifth of the world's freight traverses the Taiwan Strait.
