Britain and Germany have entered into a historic defense agreement as part of efforts to bolster European security in response to increasing aggression from Russia. German submarine-hunting aircraft will now carry out patrols in the North Atlantic, launching from a base in Scotland.
The defense ministers from both countries gathered in London to formalize the pact, marking the first such agreement designed to fortify collaboration across air, land, sea, and cyber domains. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius highlighted its importance, particularly in strengthening NATO's eastern flank.
As part of the pact, the two nations aim to close critical capability gaps, focusing on long-range strike weapons. Efforts will also be made to enhance coordination in protecting vital infrastructure, such as underwater cables in the North Sea, and in developing advanced military technologies like land-based and aerial drones.
