Amidst escalating tensions in Manipur, Kuki groups have formally appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the National Commission of Human Rights to intervene in the ongoing ethnic violence. They allege systematic aggression from the Meitei community against the tribal population, urging authorities to take decisive steps to safeguard community rights.

The Kuki Organisation for Human Rights (KOHUR) highlighted persistent violations, accusing the Meiteis of executing a 'majoritarian mayhem' aimed at seizing tribal lands. They decry the situation in Manipur as a blatant abuse of both human and constitutional rights, stressing that the issue isn't isolated but part of a recurring pattern of violence.

The gravity of the situation is underscored by reports of over 200 deaths since May 2023. KOHUR's letter, brimming with evidence and media clippings, calls for a sympathetic intervention by authorities to halt what they describe as ongoing acts of ethnic cleansing by the majority Meitei community towards the minority Kuki-Zo tribal populace.
