In a significant bust, police and excise department teams discovered 12 kilograms of gold jewellery during routine vehicle checks on the Yamuna Expressway. The operation, conducted on Monday night, led to the uncovering of 12 packets of gold in an SUV, officers said on Tuesday.
According to Trigun Bisen, Additional Superintendent of Police, Rural, the seizure was facilitated as the driver could not produce the necessary valid documents. Consequently, the jewellery was handed over to the trade tax department for further investigation.
Assistant Commissioner of GST, Kartar Singh, confirmed the SUV's driver, Vivek Gupta, claimed to be transporting the consignment to Deoria. Both the vehicle and the recovered gold jewellery are currently in possession of authorities, pending further inquiry.
