In an exclusive interview with PTI, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha assured that the LG's office would fully support a government taking steps to meet citizens' expectations. The LG emphasized the prompt conduct of local bodies elections, contingent on the submission of the OBC reservation report, suitable security provisions, and favorable weather conditions.
Sinha drew attention to the Congress's petition against the nomination of five MLAs to the Jammu and Kashmir assembly, underscoring India's democratic roots where protest and legal recourse are welcomed. He referenced historical precedents, notably the Puducherry Assembly's formation, to assert the constitutionality of nominations as per the state Reorganisation Act.
Highlighting procedural delays, Sinha noted that the Jammu and Kashmir administration awaits the backward classes commission's report before conducting elections. He reiterated that elections held without reservations might face judicial intervention, thus justifying the necessity for legislative amendments.
