The discussions are aimed at cementing Qatar's role as an energy ally amid the shifting geopolitical landscape caused by the ongoing Ukraine crisis.
Germany's need to diversify its energy sources following Russia's invasion of Ukraine has positioned Qatar as a key player. With Qatar's potential investment in Berlin's Schwedt refinery on the table, mutual interests in energy and economic growth form the crux of the bilateral agenda.
Despite past controversies over Qatar's human rights record, the Gulf state is actively engaging in image rehabilitation, partaking in cultural and media dialogue events to counter stereotypes. As the partnership grows, Qatar strengthens its foothold on the global stage, using strategic alliances to secure protection and exert influence.
