A Bangladeshi national was intercepted by authorities in Assam's Karimganj district while attempting to cross into India illegally. The individual was quickly repatriated to Bangladesh, as stated by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Karimganj, along with Cachar, Dhubri, and South Salmara-Mankachar districts, shares a 267.5 km-long international border with Bangladesh. Assam's Chief Minister credited the successful interception to the round-the-clock vigilance of the Assam Police and the Border Security Force.
Additionally, the region hosts an Integrated Check Post at Sutarkandi, one of three such posts in the Northeast, aimed at facilitating legal border crossings. The state remains committed to blocking illegal infiltration while allowing legal reentry for Indian citizens during crises.
