In a significant operation, police in Manipur's Thoubal district have seized a cache of arms and ammunition, authorities reported on Sunday.

The search, conducted by security forces near Irong Hill's STNBA Gate on Saturday, uncovered a 9mm pistol, four hand grenades, a detonator, and 12 cartridges among other items.

This discovery comes amid ongoing ethnic violence which has claimed more than 200 lives and displaced thousands in the conflict between the Imphal Valley's Meiteis and the Kukis from the hills since May last year.
