India has initiated a request for consultations with Turkiye through the World Trade Organization's safeguard agreement after Turkiye extended its safeguard measures on polyester staple fibres.
The move underscores India's position as a major stakeholder in exporting the concerned fibres, seeking a dialogue to assess information and discuss the continuation of these measures. India suggests virtual meetings on October 10 or 18.
India's trade with Turkiye reflects a substantial interest, with exports reaching USD 6.65 billion in the last fiscal year, further emphasizing the need for a mutually agreeable solution through WTO channels.
