Supreme Court Halts Tharoor's Defamation Case
The Supreme Court extended a stay on proceedings in a defamation case against Shashi Tharoor, Congress MP, over his comment referring to PM Narendra Modi. The case was filed by BJP leader Rajiv Babbar, who argued Tharoor's words defamed Modi. The court is awaiting responses from the police and complainant.

The Supreme Court has granted a four-week extension on the stay of trial court proceedings against Congress MP Shashi Tharoor in a defamation case, following his controversial remark concerning Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Justice Hrishikesh Roy and Justice SVN Bhatti gave the Delhi police and complainant Rajiv Babbar time to file responses, maintaining the interim stay on proceedings. This follows Tharoor's challenge to a previous High Court ruling.
Tharoor's defense argues that the complaint lacks grounds, stating the remark is protected under defamation law immunity and was a reference to an older article from Caravan magazine. The bench surprised at the dated comment's newfound contentious nature, has temporarily paused it for further responses.
