In a continuing diplomatic standoff, India and Canada find themselves at odds over an investigation into the assassination of a Sikh separatist leader last year. Indian diplomats have been labeled as 'persons of interest' by Canadian authorities, leading to heightened tensions between the two nations.

New Delhi has dismissed these allegations as 'preposterous,' accusing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government of pursuing a political agenda. The Indian foreign ministry condemned the allegations, stating they are part of Canadian vote bank politics, and urged for the evidence to be shared.

Relations hit a new low after Canada withdrew over 40 diplomats from India amidst accusations and counter-accusations. Meanwhile, the U.S. has also implicated Indian agents in a similar plot in New York, further straining diplomatic ties as the U.S. urges for deeper engagement with New Delhi to offset China's influence.
